JRM Racing picks up the pace as Chicherit’s confidence grows

16th October 2016

JRM Racing driver Guerlain Chicherit continued to improve his performance on the second and final day of FIA World Rallycross Championship competition at the Estering in Germany today (Sunday), giving him plenty of confidence to take into the winter off-season.

After the traditional morning warm-up, the day’s action got underway with Q3 on a damp-but-drying circuit. From fourth on the grid, Guerlain made a demon start behind the wheel of his MINI RX Supercar to leap up to second place on the opening lap, mastering the rough and rutted conditions as he proceeded to engage in an entertaining three-way tussle for victory.

The Monster Energy Athlete lapped fastest of all on the second tour as he homed in on the leader, but with the Joker Lap increasingly cutting up as more cars passed through it, the Frenchman’s speed was compromised and he had to settle for third position at the finish, less than a second adrift of the top spot.

On a drier track surface, another bright start in Q4 enabled Guerlain (below) to gain ground, but he subsequently found himself forced to back off into the first corner to avoid contact. That cost him crucial momentum, after which he constantly had to contend with dirt being kicked up in front of him and was unable to advance.

Although he missed out on progressing through to the Semi-Finals, he nonetheless drew plenty of encouragement from his weekend’s efforts.

Guerlain said: “It was a good weekend on a great circuit – the Estering is a super technical track with very tight corners that got really slippery due to the rain! The car ran great, and we managed to make quite a few changes to the wet set-up this morning and then the dry set-up for Q4.

“I got some good runs in, gaining more confidence in both wet and dry conditions and showed some competitive pace. This has served to make me more determined than ever to spend the whole winter testing and developing myself in World RX so I can come back much stronger next year.”

JRM Racing Team Principal, James Rumsey said: “Today was a positive day as we built upon all the lessons learned yesterday to produce another solid performance.

“Guerlain took another step forward in the MINI and, as we saw in Q3, he is really beginning to mix it now with his more experienced rivals. He is very happy with the progress he is making and justifiably so.

“I think we had the pace to win our Q4 race and that gives us cause for optimism moving forward. This has been another step forward for both Guerlain and us as a team that’s tackling its first full season in World RX.”
