Production car progression inspires spec for JRM's latest NR4 Subaru WRX STI

10th February 2016

JRM has launched a new specification of NR4 Subaru WRX STI rally car that will reinvigorate production rallying at all levels and help to create a clear and affordable path of progression within the class.

The car will be based on the current Subaru WRX STI model and will capture all of Subaru’s latest road car technology in a competitive four-wheel-drive rally car. Prices will start at £60,000.

It will be built to a specification that allows aspiring competitors to establish an affordable presence in the production category, or drivers of other production cars to switch to a newer model.

Crucially, competitors will be able to take JRM’s new NR4 Subaru and upgrade it to a full NR4 international specification as their career progresses and within a timeframe that budgets permit.

“Production rallying has been the mainstay of rallying for many years but there needs to be a simple and inexpensive product solution that allows competitors to make the step from regional to international competition using the same car if they want to,” JRM’s Head of Motorsport Sales, Graham Prew, explained.

“We’re giving competitors the chance to invest in a professionally-built, latest-specification, NR4 Subaru that has been built to a specification that suits the requirements of their career.

“If they compete at national level and then decide they want a full international car to make the step up in competition, the car can be upgraded easily. We believe we have created a clearer path for career progression at an exceptional price.”

JRM has a rich pedigree in production rallying. It is an official Base Team for Subaru Tecnica International (STI), Subaru’s performance division, and builds all of its NR4 Subaru WRX STI rally cars at its headquarters in Daventry, UK.

Its international-specification NR4 Subaru WRX STI has made a big impression on the international rallying stage in recent months. The car was driven to a convincing victory in the production class at Wales Rally GB in November 2015 (above), winning by more than five minutes and finishing 20th overall in the hands of David Higgins.

The car also made a winning debut in the FIA Middle East Rally Championship at the weekend as Rashid Al Naimi steered his Qatar Rally Team machine to success in the production class and finished third overall at the Qatar International Rally.
